falling into place.

last week [and monday of this week] i had the privilege to watch my baby niece, ingrid, while my brother and sister-in-law prepped for a big photo shoot for their business and the new website they're launching.
after experiencing such a difficult week the week before, it was an absolute blessing to spend some time with such a precious child. i loved and savored every second i had to spend with her and thought that life couldn't possibly get any better.

and then, on friday, i received a call from the springville museum of art informing me that i had been accepted as an intern.
and then an hour after that phone call, i got a job interview!

it was a very eventful day.

on monday morning i had my job interview and was offered the job on the spot! upon accepting it, i was worried that i wouldn't be able to juggle both my internship and my job, but everything has worked out perfectly!

it's pretty amazing and i'm so grateful that things have gone so smoothly. i was very nervous about moving back home and finding a job and being happy, but it's been such a smooth transition!

prayers are answered, people!

now all i need are some friends
[and maybe (just maybe) a cute boy].

22 August 2011

hello, again!

hello, dear friends!
i'm sorry i have neglected this blog of mine for over a month.
yikes.

i've tried writing a few different posts, but each one was dumber than the last.

but, i feel like i need to document what has transpired and not be a perfectionist about it.

so, here goes.

in the past month, i have:
graduated from college
started redoing my room [my walls are grey!]
gone to an ok ikumi/boy who could fly show
gotten lost in the provo temple baptistry,
helped my sister pack up her belongings in a moving truck
said goodbye to said sister as she moved to indiana
missed my sister who has moved to indiana
applied to many jobs and an internship at a local museum
started going to a new singles ward
received a calling {relief society instructor [exciting! my favorite calling! (no sarcasm)]}
played with my niece and nephews lots and lots
and experienced my very first break-up.

it's been a busy month.
and although it hasn't been easy [when is life ever easy?!], i've learned so, so much about myself.

i'm kind of a wreck right now, but i know that i'll be able to get through this difficult transitory state with a lot of help. my parents have already helped me out more than i can say by giving me sound advice, comfort, and thousands of much-needed hugs.

now i sound braggy.

anyway.

i've been looking forward to this time in my life for so long and i think i always imagined it being magically a thousand times better than my life in idaho, but i realized today that i have to work just as hard to be happy here as i did in rexburg.

so, from here on out, i'm done with the pouting and the crying [everyday] and ringing in this new phase of my life with a newfound positive attitude.

here goes!
wish me luck!

[and don't worry... i'll be back soon! here's to not neglecting my blog for over a month ever again (unless i have a really good reason to)!]

14 July 2011

hiatus.

this blog is officially on hiatus [even though it's been on an unofficial hiatus for the last two weeks] until july twenty-third two thousand eleven.
school is taking over my entire life right now.
prayers are welcome.

BUT,
i got my cap and gown and tassel and commemorative alumni keychain and license plate cover today!
i guess this graduation thing is really happening! weeeeeeeirrrrrdddd.

AND
i'm going to see harry potter and the deathly hallows part two at midnight tomorrow with a very cute boy [shh! don't tell the honor code police (aka gestapo)]!

life is good and extremely stressful.

anyway!

friends and familia, goodbye for now.

the next time you hear from me on this blog, i will be a college graduate [if i pass all my classes]!

besos!

01 July 2011

three items of business

1. it is officially JULY! which means i can officially say i graduate from college THIS MONTH! woohoo!

2. i'm a huge baby. my parents are in ireland right now and i haven't been able to call my mom and i cried yesterday because of it.
i seriously need to grow up.

3. this is the funniest video i've seen in a long, long time:

lack of sleep/excess of homework + sounds of summer: royksopp

i'm in a terrible mood today.
my room is right underneath my upstairs neighbors' kitchen and for the last week, i've been woken up at around 4:30-5:00am every morning by the sounds of someone stomping around upstairs.
it happened again this morning.
luckily, after about an hour, the elephant who lives upstairs left the kitchen and i was able to sleep again.
but i woke up an hour later.
and then a half hour after that.
and then another hour after that.
and so on and so forth until 10:45am.

i have a major headache and a spanish test to take today [which i am a little nervous about] so, all in all, i'm a little grumpy.

as we all know, the cure for grumpiness is good music.

enter royksopp.

my brother introduced these norwegian dudes to me last summer and love their electro-pop sound and dance club vibe.
it's impossible to listen to the opening track, "happy up here," and not have a smile on your face.
in fact, after listening to that very song, my grumpy mood is now 35% subsided!
it's a christmas miracle!

listen to this album on your next summer morning run or while getting ready for a girls night out!

sounds of summer: best coast

best album cover art ever.

this has been my walking around rexburg soundtrack.
it's perfect for sunny and warm days like today.
this album, "crazy for you" by best coast has themes of secret crushes, unrequited love, and the glory of summer.
it also has a poppy, surf rock-y and even at times motown-y feel to it.

listen to it the next time you find yourself doodling your first name plus his last name all over your diary.

there are some mornings when the sky looks like a road.

all i want to do this evening is lay in a hammock with a good book and listen to joanna newsom.
especially this song.

guess what.

in exactly one month i will be graduating from college,
leaving rexburg FOREVER,
and embarking on a new phase of life.

i am a little nervous and completely stressed out,
but i'm still extremely excited!

now, if you'll excuse me, i'm off to celebrate by doing my homework at the park because it's finally warm outside!
hallelujah!

summer sounds: beach boys' party!

it just wouldn't be summer without them.
last year i posted about pet sounds, my absolute favorite album of all time, but this year i'm posting about a live recording of the beach boys called "beach boys' party!"

it's pretty self-explanatory.
but it's pretty dang awesome, too.

this record is so upbeat and fun and makes you feel like you're just hanging out in a recording studio with the boys singing songs together, goofing off, and laughing.

so, basically, put this record on, close your eyes, and you're in heaven.

fun fact: the recording of "barbara ann" that we all know and love came from this very album!
so, imagine "barbara ann" times ten and you've got this charming and fun record.

anyway, buy it/check it out from the orem library/borrow it from a friend and let the party of the century begin!

oh captain, my captain

my favorite photo of me and my dad
[i think i post this photo every year on fathers day]

today in relief society we talked about talents and gifts. at one point in the lesson, the teacher asked us to give examples of how the gifts and talents of others have blessed our lives.
i immediately thought of my father.
he has so many gifts that have blessed my life.
i made a comment about how my dad loves learning and teaching and how those particular gifts have blessed my life and the lives of others.

but there are so many other characteristics about my dad that i admire.

for instance,

his positive outlook and cheery nature have cheered me up and helped me to keep going when i feel like giving up,
he can always, ALWAYS, make me laugh when i'm sad or upset,
he has an insatiable sweet tooth [i love this because it means i get to bake something!],
he is very reliable,
he devotes a large portion of his time helping people [i feel like he's always helping someone with something],
he is very intelligent and realizes the importance of gaining a good education,
he has a firm foundation of faith and always turns to the Lord first,
he makes THE BEST aebbelskivers,
he is a hard worker,
he is an excellent teacher [i know this both by experience and by testimonials from his previous students],
he makes sacrifices for our family,
he spent a good thirtyish years in the coast guard and understands the privilege we have of living in this country,
he has seen the world and has awesome stories,
he is a very supportive great father and grandfather and always supports his children and grandchildren in everything they do [this means having to sit through hours and hours of dance recitals--sorry, dad!],
he loves music and was responsible for exposing me to the beach boys and the rascals at a young age [for which i am eternally grateful],
he is sensitive and isn't afraid to cry [i think this is my favorite quality about my dad. i definitely got that gene from him],
one of his favorite movies is the sound of music,
he will drop everything at the drop of a hat if me or one of my siblings needs help,
and he makes sure all us kids know how much he loves my mom.

i love my dad so much.
i wish i could be in utah right now to give him a big hug and a card in the shape of a necktie.

i love you, dad! i'm so grateful to have you as my father!

sounds of summer: jenny and johnny

i'm having fun now // jenny and johnny
[doesn't that album cover just scream summer?]

jenny and johnny is comprised of jenny lewis [of rilo kiley] and her boyfriend johnathan rice.
i first heard of the duo back in september, but didn't buy their debut album, i'm having fun now, until the day before thanksgiving break. i listened to it in its entirety as i packed up all my stuff for my week-long vacation and even though it was november, the catchy melodies and fun beats made me feel like i was packing for a fun beach trip.

all in all, this just a fun record!
i highly recommend playing this album at your next barbecue, in the car with the windows rolled down, or on your ipod as you take a stroll around town.

ps: the heat came on this morning. it is june 17th. ENOUGH WITH THE COLD ALREADY, REXBURG! LET'S GET SOME SUNSHINE AND WARMTH GOING!

hoooooooold on for one more day!

if you're like me and seem to be in need of some motivation, look no further than wilson phillips.

ps: does this song remind anyone else of whip it?
i die laughing every single time razor pulls into the parking lot of the old warehouse blasting this song.
hilarious.

pps: i'm planning on starting a new sounds of summer series soon!
get excited.
i have wonderful music to share!

homesick.

[very very old photo of us jorgensens]

[press play before reading]

this is the fourth blog i've started in two days.

the other three are unfinished and will most likely remain that way.

it's been another difficult week and i can't help but glance at my graduation chain every five seconds, subconsciously willing the links to all disappear magically so i can leave this place forever and be with my family again.

i miss my family.

i think i miss them more this semester than i ever have in the history of my college career.

it's hard being far-ish away from them.
i was telling my sister how difficult it is to be four hours away from them because i know if i had the means i would go down to visit all the time, but i know, at the same time, that wouldn't be at all possible.
i'm so close, but so far away at the same time.

this distance has been a blessing and a curse, though.
i feel like the relationships i have with my siblings and parents have significantly strengthened over the years.
i appreciate them more now than i ever have in the past.
and although when i go home i don't show my appreciation and love for them as much as i should, i hope they all know how much i truly love them all.
i think about them every day, pray for them morning and night, and constantly wish i could be with them.

i really do have the best family in the world.

last night i was talking to some friends about high school and i was telling them that most of the time i preferred hanging out with my family rather than my friends.

that hasn't changed at all.
no matter what i'm doing or who i'm with, even now as a twenty-four year-old, i'd still rather be hanging out with my family.

it's comforting to know that even though i might feel a little out of place here, i will always have a place in my family.

anyway.

i'm going to stop writing now.

all this writing and reminiscing is just making me sad.

let's all pray that july 22nd comes in the blink of a eye.

06 June 2011

teens in the 1940s sound just like native southeastern idahoans in the 2010s.

i'm surprised this hasn't been shown at byu-idaho.

i guess the reason why i don't date much up here is because i don't scarf down a whole thing of cotton candy in five seconds flat like a maniac [crazy eyes and all].

but, on the other hand, at least i'm not snooty janice or boring betty!

unless i AM boring betty...

maybe i should buy myself some cotton candy...

ps: shauna, the older brother in this video looks so much like alex!

rough patch.

today was not great.

scratch that.

today was bad.

all i can say right now is that if there was a way to make it july 22nd tomorrow, i would make. that. happen.

i'm so ready to be done.

however, there is a silver lining behind every cloud.
so, in the way of good news:
-no classes tomorrow!
-no crapstone on thursday!
-the sun was out all day and it was warmish!
-i got to take a nap today!
-i'm going to the temple tomorrow!

i hope tomorrow is a better day.

la primavera

you know what the best feeling in the world is?

walking home on a cool spring night under a fragrant tree with snow-white blossoms covering every branch.

it's so wonderful, in fact, that it's tied with coasting down a hill [on a bike, of course] on a warm summer night, feeling the cool mist from sprinklers in nearly every front yard you pass.

i love spring.

20 May 2011

an ode to my haven

i spend a lot of time in my room these days.
mostly because i choose to,
but partly because i have more homework than i know what to do with.

this semester has been a trying one roommates-wise.
they are all very nice,
but three of them are in relationships and camp out in the living room with their boyfriends/fiances basically 24/7.

when they're not napping/watching tv/doing homework/making out,
they're cooking in the kitchen in shifts, making it hard for anyone else to prepare meals.

needless to say, it's a difficult situation.
it really sucks [for lack of a better phrase] when you don't feel comfortable living in your own home.

but, i am so grateful for my room
and the fact that i don't have to share it with anyone else.

room, this one's for you.
brought to you by the incomparable beach boys

rexburg bucket list

taken somewhere along I-15

while talking to my mom earlier this evening, i was struck by the realization that i am almost halfway done with my very last semester.

UNBELIEVABLE.

in two short weeks, i will be halfway done with my career as an undergrad student.

which means, i have SO MUCH TO DO before the semester is over and i'm out of here forever and ever amen.

thus, my new rexburg bucket list was born.
i'm sure i've done this before, but i'm too lazy to find it/link to it, so here's my updated list.
feel free to add any recommendations in the comments if you have any good ideas!

1. drive-in movies in sugar city or st. anthony or wherever the drive-in theater is
2. harry potter vii part ii at midnight!
3. buy an "i love ramirez shirt"
4. visit yellowstone and see old faithful
5. go to mesa falls
6. swim in rigby lake
7. spend hours upon hours basking in the warm summer sun at porter park
8. go on as many bikerides as i can
9. hike r mountain at sunrise
10. pass all my classes and GRADUATE!

18 May 2011

shout-out!

alright, dear friends.
i don't endorse products that often.
actually, i don't think i've ever done this.
BUT,
this miracle potion is a lifesaver.

i've had two really painful headaches this week.
before, i would just take some excedrin migraine and hope for the best.
sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.
my mom's friend told her about essential oils and recommended peppermint oil to help ease headaches.

and let me tell you...
IT.
WORKS.

if you suffer from migraines or any headache at all,
i highly highly recommend this.

in fact, i just used some five minutes ago, and my headache is already getting better!

pick some up!
you won't regret it!

16 May 2011

God only knows what I'd be without you.

HAPPY PET SOUNDS DAY!

even though today has been a disaster, it's not a total failure
because exactly 45 years ago, the beach boys released this miracle of an album.

i'm going to celebrate by listening to it in its entirety on ye olde record-player.
there might be some sleepytime tea thrown in there, as well.

thank you, beach boys, for making this record.
it is my all-time favorite and it always makes me happy.

ps: here's a beautiful she+him cover of "wouldn't it be nice" to commemorate this joyous occasion.
enjoy!
