smoke signals + one complaint

last night we had a party for sarah in the backyard of some very nice and accommodating girls.
they have a fire pit in their backyard.

---------------
i hate how expensive laundry is.

i smell like campfire.

tonight,
as we parked the cars,
got out,
threw rocks,
and looked at the "city" lights,
i felt closure.

i'm not sure why i needed that,
or why i felt it,
but i'm glad it happened

because now i feel whole.

08 May 2009

07 May 2009

this is pretty ridiculous, but i have so much to say today.

today was interesting.

i took it easy until 1,
took a shower,
spent an hour primping,
finished a new song,
had an "interview",
got a [crappy]job,
met some new people,
read ten pages of zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance,
took a thirty minute nap because i don't sleep at night anymore,
woke up from said nap,
watched the new [funnier than usual] office episode,
laughed and laughed while watching the new 30 rock episode,
took a slow and steady bikeride to broulims,
ran into old friends,
bought celebratory [haagen daz' peanut butter+chocolate]ice cream and pink lady apples,
went dumpster diving at great harvest,
found nothing,
took the long way home,
thought and thought and thought,
dreamed and dreamed and dreamed,
watched some of the special features off the school of rock dvd,
and listened to mates of state and beyonce and death cab for cutie until i caved in and started this post.

sounds like a normal day, right?

wrong.

there wasn't a single instance today when i felt despair, impatience, or desire to fast forward my life.
on my way home from my adventure earlier tonight, with the wind in my hair and a jenny lewis song stuck in my head, i thought about my life and how i've been wasting it away by wishing i was somewhere/one else doing something different.
i've talked about this so many times with friends and family and it's really frustrating how i never seem to really get it, but it occurred to me [again] that true happiness comes from appreciating and enjoying the stage of life you are in at the moment.

and even though circumstances are not ideal at the moment,
i think i'm [slowly]getting there.

that's something to be happy about.

list + news

i have decided/discovered that:
1. i will ride my bike to my job interview in an hour and twenty three minutes.
2. when my hair is curly, i feel pretty.
3. headbands/ribbons should be incorporated more in my everyday ensembles.
4. i will never wear flip flops and ride my bike ever again.
5. there will be a dumpster diving adventure tonight.
6. flying solo is not always a bad thing.
7. change is inevitable, inescapable, difficult, and necessary.
8. i am for sure going to eastern europe [or scandinavia] after i graduate.
9. i can wait.
10. boredom is sometimes wonderful for songwriting. two new songs in one week!
11. newborn babies look like aliens. beautiful, miraculous aliens.
12. before the end of the semester i will play a song at music outlet.
13. things aren't always what they're cracked up to be.
14. i am ready for warmth.
---------------------
in other news...
my foot feels/looks better,
there is a new 30 rock on tonight,
i have a new niece,
i can't stop listening to "halo",
music appreciation is wonderful,
and i am inexplicably optimistic.

bienvenidos!

welcome to earth, lucy marie jorgensen!
i'm so excited to meet you!

06 May 2009

not for the faint of heart.

this is how gross my foot is right now.
it's bruising very nicely, don't you think?
captured 6 may 2009

what my foot has been likened to:
1. harry potter's arm in the second harry potter movie when he breaks it and lockhart "fixes" it but really ends up making his arm boneless.
2. a toad-foot.
3. an old diabetic woman's foot.
4. a turtle [i don't get that one, either].
------------------
i watched twilight today.
i laughed the whole time.
edward is creeeeeeeepy.
------------------
i can't wait for thursday.
new 30 rock!
speaking of television, does anyone know when sytycd starts?
-----------------
newest food obsession:
cinnamon applesauce mixed with vanilla yogurt.

consumed last friday.
this picture doesn't do it justice.
man, that stuff is goooooooood.

----------------
i am super frustrated at the moment.
with everything.

1. i went to the doctor today and found out that my foot is "badly strained".
thank goodness there were no broken bones/fractures.
but there's nothing i can really do except for walk on it and take tylenol and soak it in warm water.
i feel like an idiot walking around because it takes me forever to get anywhere
and i'm a little worried about riding my bike again.
i don't want to crash.
again.
anyway, my foot looks like "an old diabetic woman's foot" [thank you, jon] and i guess it will for a little while longer.
i'm praying it heals quickly.

2. my plan for today was to go to campus and talk to a career advisor about my options.
i don't want to be a spanish teacher.
i don't think it's right for me.
and i've come full circle and realized that i just want to be an elementary school music/esl teacher.
so, i'm thinking my options are to either
a. keep going to school here and graduate with a BA in spanish ed/english ed and be completely miserable
b. keep going to school here, but try to petition to change my major [since i have a lot of credits, that could be difficult/near impossible]
or
c. transfer to uvu [which might not even be possible because of the amount of credits i have].
i talked about it with a couple of friends and just got discouraged.
i feel like my dream will never come true.
i feel like i made a huge mistake.
i feel out of place and unhappy.

basically,
i feel stuck.

i'm sorry for the downer post.
tomorrow will be better.
i promise.

04 May 2009

two posts in one day.

dear secret crush:
hi. my name is kellie olivia jorgensen and i think you are cute.
i talked to you for the first [and maybe only] time last week and i couldn't breathe
or speak, really.
maybe someday i'll get up the courage to say something to you again.
but until then, i remain
sincerely yours,
kellie olivia danger huxtable beyonce jorgensen
ps: i like your glasses. don't ever get contacts.

kittens + injuries

today alyx and i got to play with some cute, cute kittens.

i cried a little.
i really miss kiko.

this little stinker kept trying to crawl inside my pant leg. he was almost out by the time alyx shot this.

i loved these two.

this one never left that toy thing.

three at once.
the one on the far right was my very favorite.
i wanted to take her home with me.

this little one loved curling up there.
weird.

in other news...
i fell off my bike again.
and i'm pretty sure i did something bad to my foot because i can't walk.

AND
i have a job interview on thursday.
and i'm pretty sure they'll offer me the job on the spot because it's a call center.
finally i'll have something to do to occupy myself during the day.
although i don't know how i'll get there if i really messed up my foot.

life is fun.

He answers quietly, reaches my reaching

these words strengthened me tonight.

"Where, when my aching grows,
Where, when I languish,
Where, in my need to know, where can I run?
Where is the quiet hand to calm my anguish?
Who, who can understand?
He, only one."
Hymns 129, "Where Can I Turn for Peace?"

---------
so, my roommate just applied to be an english teacher in the czech republic for a semester.
I WANT TO DO THAT.
---------
i had a dream a few nights ago that i got married in a white cocktail dress.
i woke up the next morning and the first thing i did was sketch it.
it's beautiful, if i do say so myself.
dream kellie has great taste in clothing.
-------
my breakfast is frozen.
and that's just how i like it.
-------
can't stop listening to this song.
it's blissful.
-------
have i mentioned lately how much i love my bike?
her name is lynette.
and i very rarely go anywhere without her.
-------
i'm taking a cue from this blog and this blog and listing
ten things that make me happy.
1. arranging paper on paper in an aesthetically pleasing way.
2. making/giving little gifts.
3. riding my bicycle on main street where the sidewalks are wide.
4. postcards in the mail.
5. thrift stores.
6. the bumbling jorgensens' rendition of "redemption song".
7. long road trips with good music.
8. pet sounds.
9. burt's bees beeswax lip balm.
10. phone calls.

30 April 2009

today is my best-best friend's birthday.

we have so many good memories. so, in honor of this special day, i have compiled a list of favorite memories throughout the nearly four years of our friendship [has it really been that long??].

1. chelise's modern dance routine.
you have to see/know her to really understand the hilarity of the situation. just imagine a female-version of napoleon dynamite doing "the crab" (my personal favorite) or that little tap-esque move dancing very seriously to an efy song.
the funniest part: we were actually watching napoleon dynamite when chelise came in to invite us into the living room (with all the furniture pushed out of the way) to watch her dance routine.
hahahhaha

2. nosebleed.
this is probably one of our best anecdotes. alyx and i retold this story last weekend and were pleased to find out that other people really think it's as funny as we think it is!
it's kind of long, so i'll sum it up in a few phrases: white glove. early morning. potholder.

3. kitchen-cleaning to celine dion.
this happens pretty often, but the instance that comes to mind was last fall when my kitchen was disgusting and i posted on facebook that i was going to clean it, and alyx posted a reply saying she'd be there in ten minutes and the second i read that, a celine song came on my ipod (which was on shuffle). i don't know what it is about that woman's voice that makes doing dishes so enjoyable, but i just can't clean the kitchen without her (or alyx)!

4. butt-dance.
here's a mathematical formula for you: justin timberlake + my butt dance + chelise(the most innocent person to ever grace the earth) = lots and lots and lots of laughing.

5. road trip from rexburg to utah [winter 2007].
do you remember this one, alyx? this is the one where i made like seven mix cds and we pretty much screamed along to every song and it was glorious.

6. balancing contests.
i LOVE this game. even though alyx always wins.

7. valentine's day 2007.
i was so scared to get caught. i mean, not only were we outside... after curfew... we were also sneaking around cottonwood leaving chalk drawings and cookies for our favorite boys. HUGE NO-NO! but it was so worth it. that body outline in the middle of the road was genius.

8. basically anything that has to do with jackson.
jim, boyd (haha), late-night kitchen cleanings to the rocket summer and celine, hikes, that hideous picture of me on the tractor that should be deleted, watching dawsons creek inbetween shifts,

9. THE WAR.
it wasn't really a war. i just posted a bunch of "incriminating" photos of alyx on facebook because she wouldn't delete said tractor picture.

10. memoir board.
it started as a self-portrait alyx's sister sent to alyx and ended up as a sort of bulletin board for all of our memorabilia (i.e. friendship contract).

11. teary phone calls.
"alyx? i did something really stupid..."

12. high school musical [both 1, 2, and 3].
specifically: locking ourselves in the apartment and learning the dance to "we're all in this together" (HSM1), crying when troy and gabriella break up (HSM2), and alyx's mom taking us to the big theater to see HSM3.

13. first anniversary.
that chocolate was DANG GOOD.

14. learning all the words to "ice ice baby".
i still can't believe we printed out the lyrics and distributed them amongst our friends. i wonder if chalei still remembers every word...

15. rocket summer show.
that venue was HOT. LITERALLY.

16. vanilla coke runs.
that drink heals all.

17. taco bell runs.
double decker.

18. photo shoot with nancy and chelise.
they are some buff girls. hahahhaa.

19. dressing up all crazy and going to acoustic cafe.
crazy, crazy hair. but it made for great photos!

20. rooney interpretive dancing/lyric rewording.
the moment we realized that we would be friends forever.

i'm so grateful for alyx for being there whenever i need her. she's such an amazing friend and i love her much!

happy birthday, alyx!!

BIG NEWS.
my OSSO application is officially in the mail.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
------------
i feel more like myself now.

i think all these art projects are helping.
------------
today i let my hair do whatever it wanted to.

and i'm pleased with the results.
------------
i love bike rides.
and i love feeling the wind in my hair.
------------
today i watched napoleon dynamite.
i don't care what anyone says.
that movie is funny.

feliz cumpleanos

today is justin's birthday.
pictured above is my gift to him.
i can't wait for him to open it!

28 April 2009

i don't know why the font sizing is messed up. i'm too frustrated to fix it again.

last night, two exciting events took place.

1. i mustered up the courage to talk to a cute boy who played at music outlet.
[
it didn't go very well. i was nervous and he was really, really, REALLY cute.]

2. i fell off my bike on the way home from ramires.
[
i think i injured my leg pretty badly because it really hurts to walk and it woke me up about ten times last night because of the pain.]

but even though i fell really hard [
just ask hannah, aaron, joe-face, or ryan], i still got back on my bike and rode it all the way home.
[
maybe i should apply this lesson to the cute music outlet boy...]

-----
i've decided that i need to not look homeless [
homely?] this semester.
last semester i took maybe three or four showers a week and looked disgusting every day because i just didn't have time to get ready and look nice.

now that i have all this free time on my hands, i have no excuse.

goodbye, greasy hair.

-----
skype is really fun.
late sunday night, kari and i talked on skype and it was really fun to actually see her face and talk to her. i gave her a tour of my house [
except for my room because my roommate was sleeping] and we talked about how funny our mom is.
i love sisters.

-----
five good things about yesterday:
1. hanging out with alyx and a very lethargic baby.
2. taking a much-needed nap.
3. the first ramires run of the semester.
4. getting up the courage to talk to a cute boy i have never talked to before. [
that is a HUGE accomplishment for me].
5. ice cream sandwiches.

27 April 2009

i am a terrible sister.

[yesterday was my brother's 25th birthday
and i forgot to call/email/text him.
or make and send him a birthday card.

so, i guess this blog post will be a little birthday card for him.
]

karl is the second youngest in the jorgensen clan. growing up with him as my next oldest sibling was not always easy, but looking back there are a lot of good memories.

i'm sure he won't remember this one, but one day i was playing school with my dolls and he joined me and decided to be the principal. for some reason we thought it would be really funny for my cabbage patch doll, kate, to be the troublemaker.

i'm really proud to call myself his sister. i'm proud of his accomplishments and am so happy we are siblings.

happy birthday, karl!

26 April 2009

and i felt love again.

on repeat.

---------------
five good things about today:
1. i received a calling. i am the new choir pianist and i'm actually really excited about it!
2. phone calls from sisters.
3. the scriptures.
4. naptime.
5. the knowledge that the Lord knows what i am going through and how to help me through other people. i feel so blessed to know that. there were a lot of signs of that in my life today and it's amazing to see that and know that i am most definitely not alone.
---------------
have i mentioned lately how excited i am for ecuador?

i'm excited to get lost in the city and explore every nook and cranny.
i'm excited to forget whatever i'm worried about and just throw myself into hard work and service.
i'm excited to find little presents for my friends and family.
i'm excited to document my everyday life and the beauty of south america through photos and this very blog.
i'm excited to get away.
i'm excited to strengthen myself in every way.
i'm excited to serve and get to know and love the beautiful children i will be working with.

but most of all, i'm excited to finally put a stamp in my passport [is that bad?].
the first of many adventures abroad begins in july.

fooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood

i have consumed some delicious food since i've been home [big surprise, right?]...

1. i really love burgers and fries. thanks, kirsten!
taken 10 april 2009 at Coney's in orem.

2. curry. my very favorite food in the entire universe.
i recommend the angkor curry. delicious.
taken 10 april 2009 at spicy thai in provo.

3. cream [korean*?] puffs for easter.
taken 12 april 2009 at the cantrell residence.
*before dinner, my cohorts and i successfully convinced a certain cantrell girl that dessert was not cream puffs, but korean puffs: meat-filled pastries with some kind of meat sauce to pour on top. i love kids. the disappointed look on her face when it was clear that she truly believed us was PRICELESS.
don't judge.
i never had little siblings.

------------
random thoughts:
1. this blog makes me laugh.
2. the people who work at the orem dmv are super, super nice.
3. i'm 85% done with shopping malls. thrift stores are the way to go.
4. speaking of shopping, i HATE swimsuit shopping. ugh.
5. today i had a strong urge to visit iceland.
6. new obsession: 30 rock.
favorite moments: whenever kenneth and tracy interact. the episode where kenneth was in tracy's entourage killed me. genius show.
7. i love cooking. when a meal comes together well and all the flavors and textures just fit together, it's a good feeling. i wish i had more spices and ingredients to make good food up in rexburg.

pascua

"He is despised and rejected of men; a man of, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised and we esteemed him not.

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

carroll gardens

dear may-may:

i packed up my bags.
and waited all night.
and you and your blue car never came to my house.
what happened to nyc?
remember how we were going to move there last night?

oh well.

someday that will happen for real.

and we will not have to sleep in central park [unless we really, really want to].

have fun on your road trip!

07 April 2009

prayers are answered.

my ipod, which was lost, is now found!

not only does it hold my entire music library, it is also the only means of finishing the final project in my phonetics class.
and said project is due tomorrow.

WHEW!
that was a close one.

i'm grateful for a mom who can find anything who always taught me to look everywhere three times over
because it was in my backpack, underneath a bunch of crumpled papers that i swear i looked under.

things are good.
i can do this.

06 April 2009

i just got in trouble for switching my uncomfortable chair for a nice wheelie.

albums i listened to while homeworking in the library:
1. wincing the night away // the shins
2. the essential bob dylan
3. end of amnesia // m. ward
4. designing for a nervous breakdown // the anniversary
5. figure 8 // elliott smith
6. fleet foxes // fleet foxes

new favorite thing = shuffle by album on itunes.
my itunes library knows me well.
----------------
i just realized i haven't done a birthday post yet.
i apologize. really, i do.
but i have finals this week and almost no memory on my computer for more pictures.

so, that will have to wait, i suppose.
----------------
this semester has been wonderful and difficult all at the same time. reviewing past winter semesters leads me to honestly state that this is the best winter semester i've ever had.
but i'm still really angry at myself.
and a little, tiny part of me still feels like i wasted my semester [academics-wise]. even though i worked really, really hard, it still wasn't good enough. i know that it's not wholly my fault that i'm not doing as well as i could be, but i also know that i could have worked harder.
i could have gotten help when i needed it.
i could have not procrastinated.
i could have not skipped so many classes [but who wants to go to a film class taught by a man who seriously thinks that the princess bride is the greatest film ever made? not i].
i could have dropped my religion class after i found out that it was covering the second half of the old testament when i hadn't studied the first half.
i could have spent more time at the library.
i could have i could have i could have i could have

i could go on and on. but i know that thinking about the "could-haves" won't help me at all.
what will help me is honestly looking at myself and the results of this semester and vow to do better.
what will help me is to realize what is truly important and what really lasts and remember that through the hard times and impossible classes and mountainous homework.

if i learned anything this weekend, i learned that complaining is not an option for any of us. we have the gospel, we have families and friends, roofs over our heads, food in our cupboards, the blessing of living in this country and in this beautiful world created for us, talents, freedom, colors, art, music...

i don't think i'm making much sense anymore, so i'll just end on the point i was trying to make:
next time will be very, very different.
------------------
i'm so excited for ecuador.

my good friend [and future nyc flatmate] went last year and blogged about it here.
enjoy!
------------------
only three more days of school.
i can do it?

i can do it.
